In March 2004 my dad retired from his labor as a Philadelphia city worker. He was head supervisor of Maintenance at the Philadelphia Library. I remember as a kid daddy waking up 4:30 am so he could prepare for and head off to work early in the A.M. I believe daddy had these hours so they could coincide with him picking me up from afterschool childcare were I went when school dismissed at 3 pm. Daddy worked at three different branches of the Library in Philadelphia; the Central Branch on the Parkway, the South Philadelphia Branch near his home, and the Northeast Regional Branch where he retired. I am so glad I got to attend his retirement party back in 2004. I was so proud of my Dad. It just hurts me that his retirement was short lived because he had health problems but Glory to God he did get a chance to live life, enjoy his family, do things that he loved, and have us close by him in his final days. I still remember the times I would go to the Northeast Branch before I bought a computer and use the computers there and we would go to lunch and grab a bite to eat sometimes. There were times when mom would send things through him and I would go to the Library to get it. I cant ride pass the Library on the 70 bus without thinking about him. When the weather warms up I must go back there to take some pictures. I thank God for my dad and the loyalty and dedication he had for his family. If he could help he would. He was my constant support and the love of my life. I truly, truly miss him with every fiber in my being and if I can help it he will never be forgotten.
