My beloved daddy enjoyed many hobbies, For years he loved to bowl and that love led him to a professionally career in which traveled to different states for tournaments. As a young girl I remember him practicing at Gehris Lanes at 65th and Market and Oregon Lanes in South Philly. I also remember a buddy on his team he talked about a lot about named Joe Cain. Daddy won many trophies and awards for his top notch skills. I remember when he took me to the Oregon Lanes to teach me how to bowl, sorry to say I was not really interested but I didnt leave the practices uninfluenced. Later I joined my church's bowling team. We were divided into two teams. My team were the underdogs and made fun of the whole season we bowled but guess who won the championship in the end and was treated to a banquet at church and received trophies? Yes, we did, my mom still has the trophy near her tv and I still remember that powder blue sun dress I wore to the dinner, LOL.
Daddy's other love was sports and Chess, boy did he love chess. He would keep a chess set on full display in the basement. We even bought him new chess sets for Christmas. Daddy's love of music was Jazz hands down, there still remains a large collection. His love of jazz spilled over on me I believe thats why I love Oscar Peterson, Grover Washington, Jr. My later mother in law and him use to talk jazz, she loved Horace Silver, Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, John Faddis, etc.
I am glad daddy got to enjoy in life some of the things he loved. I am glad he attended baseball games with my husband and son who also love the sport. I am glad he got to dress up and go to Jazz clubs and listen to fine music. When they assembled those cabannas on the beach of Atlantic City daddy use to love to sit on the beach and listen to the music by the ocean. Lord God although I dont know a lot about what my dad experienced in his 75 years of living, I thank God for what I do know and what you allowed us to share together. Father God, can you please tell him I miss him and love him.
